He inherited a more excellent Name.
The body of Christ needs a fresh revelation on the Name of Jesus to deal with the spiritual realm because we are experiencing darkness on a new level but the Name has never lost its power or the Blood its Glory. We have lost our ability to function in resurrection power. Our natural mind has taken the place that the Holy Spirit needs to occupy and control as our guide. We need to be mindful of the things of the Holy Spirit which is life and peace! We must occupy our higher ground, rise up and take our spiritual position being seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus!
Wherefore also God highly exalted Him and bestowed [given] on Him the Name which is above every Name! That in the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth. And every tongue [sound breath] should openly confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the Father. – Phil. 2:9,10,11
God has highly exalted Him – exalted beyond measure, to exalt to the highest rank and power, raise to supreme majesty and authority.
Given a name – to give something as an honour or present, the highest honour was placed upon Him, bestowed like He was covered like a blanket.
Is Lord – Sovereign master of the universe the possessor and disposer of a thing the owner; one who has control of the person, the master a title of honour expressive of respect and reverence.
The Glory – splendour, brightness, magnificence, excellence, majesty, the perfect obedience resulting in Glorified Glory.
To the Glory of God the Father – The Syriac translation reads, to the Glory”His Father”, who was given all power and authority, and exalted Him at His own right hand; He that honoureth the Son, honoureth the Father also. The Vulgate Latin version says, “because the Lord Jesus Christ is in the Glory of God the Father”: being in the form of God, of the same nature and essence with Him, and equal to Him!
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. – Heb. 1:2-4
A “more excellent name that they” Jesus inherited. A greater Name than any angelic being. As a Son, He is heir of all things because He redeemed all things. So, that means He becomes the owner of all things. He becomes Lord meaning possessor as Adonai. He is not just saviour but now becomes responsible for our lives because He is now Lord of our lives. He is provider, healer, whatever we need He has become. Everything we need is in the Name. The Name of Jesus carries the essence of Him as Lord. As the ‘express image’ as the Son of the Father. He is the “brightness,” or “the outshining,” of the Father. He is God speaking to us. “By inheritance He obtained a more excellent Name.” Remember His Name is a better covenant established on better promises! He inherited not in heaven, but He had to walk an earthy walk to obtain!
The Epistles say He stripped Himself of Honour and Glory. Heb. 1:5 says He inherited the Name after the Father said, “Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee….THIS DAY have I begotten thee. The Son of God was not born as He took on flesh. He pre-existed with the Father. A body was prepared for him in Heb. 10:5. In the beginning before all time was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself becoming human flesh human incarnate fixed His tent of flesh lived awhile among us…. such glory as an only begotten [or born]son receives from His Father. Acts 13:33 – He has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, THOU ART MY SON, THIS DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE. When was Jesus begotten. On that resurrection morning. He had to become like we were, separated from God. He tasted spiritual death for every man. The result of sin influenced everything created, that is why we will have a new heaven and a new earth, with resurrected bodies. Jesus tasted death for ever man. He was the first to be born again. Remember Jesus on the cross cried – My God why has thou forsaken Me! When the bible talks about death never means the cessation of life. We have spiritual death, physical death, and eternal death or the second death cast into the lake of fire. What is spiritual death? It is the opposite of spiritual life. It does not mean the cessation of being.
When we talk about a sinner’s being spiritual dead, we do not mean his spirit does not exist. His spirit does exist, and will exist eternally, because that part of man whether he is saved or unsaved-is like God. Man is an eternal being, he has a soul [mind, will, emotion], he lives in a body [5 senses]. But a sinner’s spirit is not in fellowship, and not in relationship with God. God told Adam concerning the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, ‘You shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die’ Gen2:17. We know Adam did not die on that day physically. But the moment he ate, he did die, spiritually. That does not mean that Adam ceased to exist. It means he was instantly out of fellowship and out of relationship with God! Adam had been walking and talking with God, in fellowship, in relationship. This time God came down in the cool of the day to fellowship with Adam. He called out “Adam where art thou?” Adam answered, “I was afraid… and hid myself.” Why? Because he had sinned. Sin separates from God. Spiritual death means separated from God. Spiritual death also means having the nature of satan. Jesus said to the Pharisees, “You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” John 8:44. Pharisees were very religious. They went to the synagogue on the Sabbath, they prayed, they paid tithes, they fasted, and they did a lot other fine and good things, but they lied about Christ and murderer Him. Jesus said they were children of the devil characteristics of the devil. When we are born again, we take on the nature and character of the new creature in Christ-which is life and peace. The nature of the devil is lies and hate. Jesus tasted death-spiritual death for every man. Sin is a spiritual act. He became what we were, that we might become what He is. Jesus become sin. His spirit was separated from God. He went down into hell. Peter preaching on the day of Pentecost he said, You will not leave my soul in hell, nor will you suffer your Holy One to see corruption. Ps. 16:8-10 David saw this prophetically seeing Him on the right hand, that Christ would be raised from the dead to sit on His throne. Then Paul confirms it saying in Acts 13:33 You are My Son, this day have I begotten Him.
YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE AUTHORITY IN THE NAME OF JESUS UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND THIS FACT THAT JESUS PAID THE PRICE FOR THAT NAME AND DEFEATED THE PRISON HOUSE OF satan HIMSELF BECAUSE HE DIED AS OUR SUBSTITUTE. When He was raised from hell by the Glory of the Father His body was raised up, He said THIS DAY I have begotten you. That’s the day He obtained a more excellent Name by inheritance! This covenant is a more excellent covenant established on better promises that He Name inherited. Now Jesus expects us to walk in the same authority, dominion, and power over the works of the devil – Luke 10:19.
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive. The first man, Adam became a living soul; the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit – 1 Cor. 15:22; 45.
Study Notes: But we see Jesus who was made little inferior to the angels because of suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour, so that by the grace of God He might taste death on behalf of everything – Heb. 2:9
THE NAME IS NOW CROWNED WITH GLORY AND HONOUR!
