Wherefore, holy brothers, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus.
We are separated for a divine purpose as we are called holy; we are holy partners associated with a heavenly invitation to embrace and fully observe the one who has been sent by the highest authority that represents heaven itself as the One who has divine influence in public affairs.
Jesus became the perfect High priest because He was the perfect sacrifice on the Day of Atonement, and fulfilled all legal requirements to stand in that office as mediator on our behalf.
Let us look at the word “confession” in this passage: “To profess that which is yours”, meaning, to say the same thing Jesus said. So what is Jesus speaking over us? What is He confessing that is ours? In John 1:14 it tells us that “the Word become flesh”. Jesus who is the Word of God, came and fulfilled every letter, jot and title. He now has the legal right to say what He has fulfilled over us as the Word and the will of the Father.
The highest authority by His covenant has become the undefiled, unadulterated Word of the Father to us as the complete demonstration of perfection. When Jesus said it was finished, He was referring to everything that was prophesied from the beginning of time. He is the complete package of every Word spoken. Therefore He has the right to confess and declare over us the full covenant by the blood, the complete fulfilment of His redemption. No wonder the power and the authority of the spoken Rhema Word has so much power in its application that nothing, and I mean nothing, can stand against it! Because the same active creativity of that Word is in our hearts. As we believe and speak, it has the same applicable meaning that is as if Jesus Himself is speaking through us, no wonder He said that “whatever you bind on earth has already been bound in heaven.”
Matthew 18:18-20 says that “I give you all power and authority over all the works of the enemy.” When Jesus resisted the enemy He spoke the Word in Matthew 4. So when Jesus became sin, (carrying our sin, our disobedience, our lawlessness) He also became responsible for our walk with Him as Christians. Meaning that He now also takes our place in Him as Redeemer. He took our lack, our depression, our thoughts of suicide, our disappointments and anything that would hinder our walk or anything that will hinder the Will of God in our lives.
So what is Jesus confessing over us? His Word of victory, His Word of healing, restoration, joy and peace. He speaks the fruits of our born again, re-created spirit, which is love in all its varied expressions; joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit – Galatians 5:22-23. That is the Word He is speaking over and to us, so that Word can produce fruit in our lives as High Priests. This is our inheritance, all because He is the perfect High Priest, with the perfect Word in His mouth.
Isaiah 55:11 says, “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; it will not return to Me void (useless, without result), without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” This is one of my confessions that I believe with my heart and speak with my mouth and come into agreement with. Just like Jesus would before the Father as advocate and intercessor – No weapon formed against me shall prosper; and EVERY TONGUE that shall rise against me [nation, family, unsaved loved one’s] in judgement I shall condemn [declare helpless]. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord!
Jesus, our High Priest, our sent One is He who sends His Word as His confession over us. Our part is to take that same Word and put it into our mouths, as in Romans 10:9 -10. We must hold fast to our confession of our faith. Hebrews 10:23 – “Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word]” We have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to this confession!!
