MY LITTLE children, I write you these things so that you may not violate God’s law and sin. But if anyone should sin, we have an Advocate (One Who will intercede for us) with the Father–[it is] Jesus Christ [the all] righteous [upright, just, Who conforms to the Father’s will in every purpose, thought, and action].
1 John 2:1 AMPC
Jesus is our heavenly great High Priest, our representative in heaven before the throne of God, but on earth we have a heavenly representative in our hearts – the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus has sent. When we look at Jesus in heaven the Holy Spirit presents the same picture to us as on earth.
John 14:16 says, “He shall give you another comforter, that He may abide with you forever.” He comes alongside you to take care of your case, your affairs and all your needs – He is in us as the Spirit to meet our needs. As we look at the scripture, we see Jesus our advocate taking our position, in heaven, to side in as our helper; one who offers legal aid or one who intercedes on our behalf as our counsel and intercessor. The word denotes that Jesus is consoling the counselor. He is a comforter, the paraclete, the Spirit of reality and He cares for our cause and affairs.
Jesus, as the High Priest, is standing in the gap as our Godly counsel, pleading or putting into remembrance (Isaiah 43:26) based upon His total satisfaction undertaking as one in a family affair restoring our interrupted fellowship. The same Jesus in heaven is the same Jesus in the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit does not speak on behalf of Himself, He can only speak, guide, accomplish and bring into remembrance what He hears and sees Jesus do – John 16:13, “But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].” Our connection to Jesus as our High priest is our connecting to the Holy Spirit.
The importance of praying in the Spirit by the Holy Spirit is that it is precisely that perfect language of the Spirit that utters exactly and accurately the longings in our hearts and in Heaven. Praying in the Spirit is praying out the perfect will and completely in the perfect plan of the Father and Jesus, that brings the sounds of heavenly words into the earthly realm in perfect timing. He is our counsellor, helper, teacher, standby, advocate, strengthener, intercessor and the Spirit of truth!
When we work as co-labourers with the Holy Spirit, we are co-labouring with Jesus as if He were here on earth. Jesus the head, flows through the body through the Holy Spirit. So, when the Holy Spirit is Lord in our lives, we can say Jesus is Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:17, 18, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty [emancipation from bondage, true freedom]. And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.”
God’s will then flows through us like a torrent out of our bellies from heaven above to the earth below! Glory to God!
I enjoyed this learnt even from your own teaching!!
