Prayer and the Name of Jesus – Part 3

John 14:13 – “And whatever you ASK IN MY NAME, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son, v14 – If you ask Me anything in My name, I WILL DO IT!”

The word ask means to verbalise what you desire or require, this prayer in His name is not asking for a request, supplication, provision or just fellowship. This prayer in His Name is a strong assertion of fact and strength. Jesus is saying, ‘My Name has been Glorified because the Father has been glorified’ IN HIS NAME. The word Glorified has a meaning of excellence, to become manifest, to honour and to clothe with splendour. It is the Glory that the Father carries is in HIS Name.

The Name He uses here is simply to do the works of the Father and to display His splendour in the works that He performs as He Glorifies the Father in it.

When we confront the devil and his cohorts, we use the power of His Name to destroy his plans and purposes. This is a very authoritative prayer in His Name. When I deal with satan, I do not ask the Father to deal with him – I use the name of Jesus directly because of the authority and the exaltation of that Name and the Glory that is IN HIS NAME is already enough. That Name has not just been exalted in heaven but it is also exalted on the earth – so when I use the name of Jesus, it has the same power that it represents in heaven. Whenever I use that NAME against the enemy, Jesus said that ‘MY NAME will do it as if I am on earth right now.’

Luke 10:19 – “I have given you the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt or harm you!” One definition of the word power is the word dunamis which literally means IN MY NAME is the miraculous working ability in the display of Glory that carries the very substance of heaven itself. The might and the strength itself is in the abundance within THE NAME

Mark 16:17 – “These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.” Verse 20, “And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the accompanying signs.”

Luke 4:31-36, “31 Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day.

32 There, too, the people were amazed at his teaching, for he spoke with authority.

33 Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon—an evil[a] spirit—cried out, shouting,

34 “Go away! Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

35 But Jesus reprimanded him. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered. At that, the demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it came out of him without hurting him further.

36 Amazed, the people exclaimed, “What authority and power this man’s words possess! Even evil spirits obey him, and they flee at his command!” 37 The news about Jesus spread through every village in the entire region.”

His Name that represented His Word (and still does today) with authority was recognized by demons because now His Name is anointed, they recognize that the Spirit of the Lord was upon HIM! In verse 36 of Luke 4, we see Jesus’ authority displayed.

In Acts 19 they recognized Jesus and Paul by the anointing they carried in THE NAME. The NAME carries the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the power to do good, and to heal those who are oppressed by the devil!

He obtained a MORE EXCELLENT NAME – You have crowned HIS NAME with GLORY and HONOUR and have set HIS NAME over all the works of Your Hands. His NAME is just as powerful as He is – it is as great as He is excellent. How amazing is it that the NAME stands and represents the Person. ‘Silver and gold, I do not have BUT I HAVE THE NAME OF JESUS! Rise up and walk.’ We see this power displayed with Moses in Exodus 3:13-15, “But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?”

14 God replied to Moses, “I am who I AM[a] Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh,[b] the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.

This is my eternal name,

my name to remember for all generations.”

No wonder satan bows and backs off from that NAME – I have seen it myself in the Spirit, how the spirit of death bowed and backed off and the person totally restored back to life within hours and discharged from hospital! Our faith in the NAME of JESUS must increase as we use it more to destroy the works of darkness. Revelation of the NAME gives you a greater understanding of the power and authority which that NAME carries in the Spirit!

In Acts they were called Christians, which means that they are the ones who carry and represent THE NAME OF JESUS! His name represents His covenant, and every time you use His NAME you release the Covenant rights and benefits in HIS NAME – the angels and all of heaven are moved and stand at attention as they come into full action to do what that NAME represents!!

I dare you to use it, and He will answer you and He WILL DO IT!
