Dominion Over All The Powers of Darkness
Enforcing Jesus’ Victory—His Complete Victory!
The believer’s inheritance in Christ is the wisdom of God. It was once hidden, but now that truth has been revealed. We are called to walk in this reality, possessing the key to take our place as the triumphant Church, reigning as kings in this life.
The Holy Spirit opens our understanding, giving us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. We understand the complete victory Jesus accomplished for us (Eph. 1:17–23; 3:14–21). We are joint heirs, seated with Him, and our position gives us authority and triumph over ALL THE PLANS AND WORKS OF SATAN!
After Jesus was anointed, the unclean spirit recognized who He was and cried out, “Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him, and the people were astonished, saying, “With what power and authority He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”
In the wilderness, when Jesus was tempted, He did not engage in a battle with satan. He overcame with the Word alone. He surrendered completely to the will of God, and in every encounter He defeated the devil. Jesus’ complete victory over satan is clearly revealed throughout the Scriptures. He always stood His ground when confronting satan.
Hebrews 2:14 declares that through death Jesus destroyed him who had the power of death. He brought to nought him who held the power of death. Jesus conquered satan and stripped him of his power and authority. He destroyed satan’s authority—not that satan ceased to exist, but that he was stripped of his illegal authority.
The Moffatt Translation says that He might “crush him who wields the power of death.” Jesus destroyed the authority of the lord of death. We are sharers in Jesus’ complete victory. The keys of hell, death, and the grave now belong to Christ. Satan no longer has jurisdiction.
Jesus’ victory over bondage delivered us from captivity. His complete victory over satan accomplished the complete defeat of the enemy. We have been redeemed from satan’s dominion.
Colossians 2:15 says that Jesus spoiled principalities and powers—HE DISARMED THEM.
The Phillips Translation describes it as: EXPOSED, SHATTERED, EMPTIED, DEFEATED—a complete victory over all the powers of darkness. He disarmed and stripped satan of all power and authority, having put him to nought—to reduce him to nothing.
Every evil host has been brought to nought. This reveals satan’s eternal defeat. In ancient times, every defeated king was captured and marched in a triumphal procession as a trophy of victory. That is what Jesus did. He spoiled satan and defeated him in the heavenly realm, the earthly realm, and the realm of hell. Jesus has given His keys of authority to us.
1 John 3:8 says:
“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy, put to nought, and reduce to nothing the works of the devil.”
1 Corinthians 2:6–7 reveals the dethroned power of satan. To be dethroned means to be removed from a throne or place of prominence. To be deposed means to be removed from office, position, or authority—especially from a high office.
Satan has no authority over the believer unless the believer gives him access through a lack of knowledge of God’s Word, disobedience, or failure to exercise his rights in Christ.
The wisdom of God teaches us that believers simply stand in Jesus’ victory over the devil. We do not need to wage war against a defeated foe. God’s wisdom has given us AN ENFORCING VICTORY TO EXERCISE.
Satan, as the god of this world, seeks to blind believers into struggling and warring against darkness in an attempt to defeat what Christ has already conquered. The battle has already been won, yet he wants believers to think he still rules and reigns. We must see the truth and the power of the finished work of the Cross.
Ephesians 1:19–22 tells us that God set Christ at His own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, power, might, dominion, and every name that is named.
The Name of Jesus has been exalted far above every name. His Lordship and dominion occupy the highest position in the universe.
Ephesians 2:2 refers to “the prince of the power of the air”—the dethroned powers.
My position is in Christ. I share His position far above all principalities and powers. The enemy cannot rule over those who are seated with Christ.
Our seating speaks of authority, honour, and triumph—not failure, depression, or defeat. It is our spiritual position. As we take advantage of our position above every circumstance, we begin to triumph in life.
We are not helpless against the devil. We rule and reign. Our glorious future begins now, not only in heaven one day. Our position in Christ makes us MORE THAN CONQUERORS. We sit with Him on His throne—we no longer remain at the Cross.
Ephesians 2:6 says He has raised us up together and made us sit together with Christ.
This is our position of AUTHORITY, HONOUR, AND TRIUMPH.
It is our inheritance.
TO RULE AND REIGN IS OUR POSITION!
God has raised us with Christ from the dead and enthroned us with Him in the heavenly realms.
We are sharers and partakers. It is our legal right through our joint seating with Christ. We are not praying to reach a position—we are praying from our seated position in Christ. Our legal right to be seated with Him is an established fact.
Ephesians 1:22 declares that ALL THINGS ARE IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET.
All things means all things—not some things. Principalities, powers, thrones, and dominions are all in subjection to the Lord Jesus Christ. Because we are IN CHRIST, all evil spirits are subject to us in Jesus’ Name.
Disease, sickness, sin, evil spirits, and poverty are under His feet. We are the Body of Christ, therefore all things have been placed under our feet.
Under Jesus’ feet is the devil. His head has already been crushed (Gen. 3:14–15). He has no authority over us—we have authority over him.
The climax of Christ’s redemptive work is His RESURRECTION. The Father is glorified in His Son, and that glory is revealed through the Name of Jesus.
Jesus has gone into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers being made subject unto Him.
Not only the realm of evil, but the entire universe—angels, rulers, and powers—is subject to Him.
He is the Creator and Lord of all. The invisible became visible in Christ. All things were created through Him, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.
The word subjection means to bring under obedience and into submission.
Luke 10:19
“Behold, I give unto you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Here we have the keys to deal effectively with the enemy. We tread upon and walk in authority OVER ALL the power of the enemy.
The first word translated power is exousia, meaning authority.
The second word translated power is dunamis, meaning strength or ability.
We possess no authority in ourselves. Our authority is entirely in Christ.
We have been given authority over ALL the power of the enemy. God Himself is the force and power behind our authority.
Nothing, no one, and no unjust thing shall injure us or cause us to suffer.
The Contemporary English Version (CEV) says:
“I have given you the power to trample on snakes and scorpions and to defeat the power of your enemy, satan. Nothing can harm you.”
This includes devils, demons, and evil spirits. We exercise our authority with a conscious awareness of the divine power behind us and of our authority in Christ.
The Name of Jesus has been given to us through our inheritance and by legal right. All power and authority have been invested in that Name which is above every name in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.
Jesus said:
“Whatever you shall ask the Father in My Name, He will give it to you” (John 16:23).
Prayer according to the Word is the foundation of effective prayer.
“In My Name shall they cast out devils…” (Mark 16:17).
These signs shall follow those who believe.
Jesus has conquered, defeated, dethroned, and deprived the enemy of all power and authority. Satan was cursed to crawl upon the dust of the earth as a defeated foe.
Dominion is God’s force of might demonstrated through His great power and mighty working.
