Lazarus, a friend of Jesus by whom he had visited and ate with had a sister who was one that followed Jesus and she has anointed Jesus’s feet. Mary and Martha came to Jesus saying: “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.” Jesus responds by saying that “this sickness is not unto death, but that the glory of God” shall be seen. You can read about this in John 11:3.
Jesus is saying the glory of God is greater than any sickness or death. In John 11:11 Jesus makes the statement saying that Lazarus has just fallen asleep (knowing in the Spirit that he has, in fact, died) but Jesus calls out His authority and speaks life just like He spoke to Jairus’ daughter and said that she is only sleeping. He said this because He knew that their spirits were going to return to their “sleeping” bodies.
In both of these events, Jesus is speaking the result (separating the end from the beginning), not the condition of the person and what may seem like it’s reality in the flesh. He is speaking forth the answer because Jesus already has the answer. By the time Jesus arrived at Bethany, Lazarus had already laid dead in the tomb for four days. Some think it to be odd that Jesus waited a few days before going to Lazarus, but what many people do not realise that Jesus waited a few days in order to destroy Jewish tradition. Hallelujah!
They believed that the spirit would hover around the body for three days before departing. It was known in Israel, during that time period, that someone who was deceased could come back to life during that three-day period but not after.
Jesus waits four days to reveal the glory, the Spirit of God, to break the traditions of man. The anointing destroys the yoke of religious thinking and the veil must be removed for the reality of the truth to be made manifest. Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life”. He is declaring His calling of prayer and the glory.
“…Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” – John 11:40
If you believe you will see the glory of God in manifestation! In John 11, Jesus gives us keys regarding; prayer by not looking at the circumstance, instead, looking at the promises of God. Abraham takes his unwavering faith in God (Rom. 4:20,21) and releases it, giving God glory. He was fully convinced that what God had promised, He was fully able to perform. Sarah’s womb was barren and dry, but because Abraham had faith in God and in the word (promise) that He had given him, Sarah’s womb was opened to bring forth a son called ‘Laughter’ [joy].
Praise always bring forth the desired answer of prayer and victory, and faith mixed with praise will defeat the enemy every time!
When Jesus tells them to remove the stone, He is removing all hinderances and religious thinking – He is essentially removing the veil!
When He lifted His eyes to heaven, He connected the earthly realm with the heavenly realm. In the supernatural, death is not an issue neither is the weeping nor the stone. His eyes are on the Father, the source of all life. His giving thanks to God for hearing Him is also His praise to God.
The words that echo out of Jesus’ mouth are “Father, I thank you…”
He expresses His heart of thankfulness for the glorification of the Father. His prayer of thanks releases the glory so that the people who stood around the tomb would believe that He was sent of the Father.
Because his faith was counted as righteousness, the glory of God was released upon Sarah to bring her barren womb to life – when the righteous rejoice there is a great release of glory! Faith carries the promise to manifest the glory. The Father released the glory (Rom. 6:4) to raise His own Son from the tomb to bring a glory-filled life!
“O, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the people!” – Ps. 105:1 (NKJV)
“We give thanks and praise to You, O God, we give thanks, For Your [wonderful works declare that Your] name is near; people declare Your wonders.” – Ps. 75:1 (AMP)
When Jesus multiplied the five loaves and two fish, He gave thanks. Jesus released the promise of Genesis 1:28; He blessed and said, ‘be fruitful, multiply, replenish, subdue and have dominion.’ The answer to prayer is in His promise. In the glory is every breakthrough and every good thing. In the glory is the fulness of His promises – 12 baskets full of blessings and overflowing increase!
