The “Secret Place” – The “Hiding Place”
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty, whose power no foe can withstand.
The Hebrew word translated as secret place means “covering,” “shelter,” or “hiding place.” It refers to a place of concealment and refuge. It also implies to hide or be in secret—just as Jesus referred to His Father when He said to pray to Him who is in secret, indicating the protective nature of hiding in God.
- Psalm 27:5 – For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His pavilion.
- Psalm 32:7 – You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble.
- Psalm 119:114 – You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your Word.
- Isaiah 26:20 – Enter into your chambers and shut the doors behind you until the indignation is past.
- Isaiah 25:4 – The Lord is a shelter and shade from the storm; in that place is protection.
- Jeremiah 36:26 – The Lord had hidden them; He concealed them.
The Lord is my rock and my salvation, my fortress—I find refuge in Him. Ask Moses—he wanted to see the Lord, and God hid him in the cleft of a rock. Elijah was in a cave, and Jewish history tells us it was the same rock as Moses. When the Lord told Elijah, “I am not in the thunder and lightning, but in the still small voice,” He revealed the intimacy of that hidden place.
Jesus taught that where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Moses had many encounters in secret places: going up the mountain, pitching his tent outside the camp to meet with God. God made His ways known to Moses because Moses desired to know Him. Jesus said, when you go into your prayer chamber, pray to your Father in secret—meaning the place and position of your heart determine the depth of your relationship. Deep calls unto deep.
Oswald Chambers said prayer is a battle in the secret place—a struggle and blessing of focused prayer in secrecy. You shut your door to the outside so you can enter inside. For me, it is an abiding place hidden behind the veil, in His glory and power! It is a lifestyle—deliberate and purposeful—of hiding in God, the secret of His presence, the inner sanctum. Face to face!
The secret place of stillness is reflection, meditation, quietness, and worship—on your face! It is not about you—it is everything about Him! You cannot take yourself there. The Holy Spirit connects you to the life supply, gently and lovingly drawing you into the secret place. Jesus said, If My commandments are kept, My Father will love that person, and We will come and manifest [reveal, unveil, display] Ourselves to them.
Psalm 91:1 (TPT) – When you sit enthroned under the shadow of Shaddai, you are hidden in the strength of God Most High.
He who abides in the covenant place under the Glory Cloud of El Shaddai is hidden from the crushing words of this world. I am covered, elevated to the heights of the Most High, where I dwell in His presence—the MOST POWERFUL!
These words create vivid images, illuminating understanding and helping you enter in. Jesus on the mountain—His face shone—His entire being was full of light! A transformed, renewed mind through meditation on the Word produces the image of Christ through the Holy Spirit.
The cloud by day and pillar by night ([Exodus 13:20–22])—as long as the people stayed under that covering, they abided in God’s glory. Everything they needed was supplied: their clothes and sandals grew with them; not one among them was sick. They had supernatural protection from enemies, snakes, scorpions, wild animals—and supernatural provision: manna, water from a rock, and quail. God spread a cloud over them; His glory was their shadow. As long as they stayed under the cloud—in the secret place—God could speak to them.
Adam and Eve were clothed in garments of light. They carried the rays of His chambers, the cloud of His chariots, and walked upon the wings of the wind. When they sinned, they stepped out of the cloud and saw their nakedness. But Jesus came and restored the glory—not just upon us, but within us! We carry the treasure of His glory—the secret place of His covering is now inside us.
Paul said it this way:
“Christ in us, the hope of glory.” – Colossians 1:27
We are His temple, the abiding and dwelling place of glory.
Peter in Acts 5:15—his shadow healed many in the streets, overshadowing them with the Glory Cloud. Whoever touched Jesus in faith received healing and miracles—they touched the shadow of the Most High.
Psalm 42:1–2 (TPT) – I long to drink of You, O God, to drink deeply from the streams of pleasure flowing from Your presence. My longings overwhelm me for more of You! My soul thirsts, pants, and longs for the living God. I want to come and see the face of God.
Psalm 17:15 – As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness, having sweet communion with You.
This is a place of fellowship, a relationship as His son or daughter—passing through the eye of the needle, bowing low to enter that secret chamber of honor and reverence for Him.

The holy spirit … how to hear HIS Voice I long and believe God never leaves us alone.
