The Ministry of the Holy Spirit in Prayer – Part 6

When I Pray in Other Tongues

Central truth: Whatever heaven represents to us as Jesus our intercessor, the Holy Spirit represents heaven to us as Jesus our intercessor.

“For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays…” – 1 Cor. 14:14

I do the praying. The Holy Spirit gives the words!

You are a temple of the Holy Spirit, and He uses us as vessels to distribute Himself through us in His calling and office! When I avail myself to Him and allow Him to lead and guide me and I follow His voice to speak through me, I am living in the Kingdom. Heaven then becomes real on earth as we exercise our dominion and Spirit reign through Him by praying in the Spirit. The infilling of the New Testament believers with the Holy Ghost should be our pattern today. I propose that we look at the Acts of the Apostles, see how they did it, and follow their example in getting people filled with the Holy Ghost.

In the first chapter of Acts, just before Jesus ascended on high, we see this great scene:

4 And, being assembled with them, (Jesus) commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.” – Acts 1:4-5.

And then on the day of Pentecost:

1 And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place, 2 when suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed, and which settled on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].” – Acts 2:1-4.

When the day of Pentecost had fully arrived, it was a manifestation of the Glory of God coming into man through speaking in tongues, being Baptized by Jesus Himself. We must understand that in the OT they did not have the Holy Spirit but we, the Church Age, have become recipients of God’s Spirit in us. Jesus said, I will not leave you as orphans, but I will now live in you as the Holy Spirit! Now we receive power to do what Jesus did on earth in His ministry. We are now empowered.

For 30 years, Jesus could do nothing until the Spirit endowed Him for His calling and ministry to fulfil God’s plan! Jesus said, Without the Holy Spirit there is not one thing I can do! In our walk as prayer partners with Him, we can declare “I am being equipped to do all that He has enabled me to do all, as I multiply my gifts for His Glory!” as we submit, yield, surrender and are under His control to obey Him to do all the will to God!

In Acts 1:8, Jesus said, but you shall receive the POWER of the Holy Spirit when He has come upon you! You shall be witnesses of His resurrection and ascending of the Spirit of Life. What Jesus did in His incarnation was that He implanted within us the same seed that Mary was conceived with. We carry this seed to continue His ministry on the earth with the same POWER and AUTHORITY to spread the Kingdom as seeds in the same resurrection as demonstrators of the same Glory that raised Him from the dead!

The word power comes from the Greek word Dunamis. That’s where we get the words for dynamite or dynamo. But this word is the manifestation of another word, meaning it is a working word which displays or to manifest. This power resides by its nature to exert and put forth power to perform miracles with its power and influence. It is so powerful that it cannot be resisted. This miraculous power of the demonstration of the Spirit is forceful like a tempest of wind that display a force of the abundance of the Almightiness of the Creator!

The power consisting of that rests on an army as a force to conqueror. The word dynamo comes from an electrical turbine that generates electricity. In a dam wall they have turbines like dynamos. The water of the dam is released through these turbines that turn at such a speed creating power (or as we better know it, electricity) which we use to power up our equipment, houses, and businesses.

In electricity generation, a generator is a device that converts motive power (mechanical energy) into electrical energy for use in an external circuit. An electromagnetic field around the turbine converts the power into electricity. When I am full of the Word and Spirit when I begin to pray in my spiritual language, the words and spirit mix creating a supply of the anointing. And when those words, like a river, go through my lips and are spoken, I release the Dunamis power of the creativeness of God to change circumstances, nations, releasing an outpouring of the Spirit of Glory and miraculous power of healing, deliverance, and reaping of the end-time harvest of souls.

There is so much happening because the perfect will of God is spoken, bringing edification and change. The same Jesus in heaven is the same Jesus speaking through the Holy Spirit on earth as a heavenly representative through us, His temple, proclaiming the Kingdom on earth as it is done in heaven. My Words are so filled with God that He moves the realm of the Spirit through me to bring His Glory into manifestation that the natural realm comes in absolute obedience to the Sons of Glory as in Romans 8:26 – we groan in the Spirit!

The key to powerful prayer is to stay full of the Spirit and full of the Word to create a substance that the Spirit can use (Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:18-19). So many pray in tongues but do not have power. So many pray in tongues, but the Spirit does not have them. So many pray in tongues but carry no Glory. So many pray in tongues but have no fervency. So many pray in tongues but are an empty, noisy cymbal not walking in love.

What’s the key that God is looking for? He is looking for full vessels who are impregnated with faith and wisdom [mysteries]. A humble vessel is a yielded vessel that can be used to bring change and usher in a Global Glory.

Why I must Pray in the Spirit:

  • It is the doorway into the supernatural – God is a Spirit Being. When I pray from my spirit through the Holy Spirit, I am praying into the doorway of the supernatural (1 Cor. 14:2-4)
  • Praying in the Spirit is praying in your most Holy faith, building, and expanding our spiritual capacity. It does not give faith, but rather, our faith is stirred to believe God for mega things and receive a mega answer (Jude 20)
  • The power I release creates a miraculous atmosphere for the supernatural manifestation of the Glory (Acts 1:8 Col. 1:27 Rom. 6:4; 8:11 Matt. 17; Luke 9; Jesus walks on the water after prayer)
  • For I do not know how to pray but the Spirit prays God’s perfect will through me (Rom. 8:26; 1 Cor. 14:2)
  • Praying the Mind of the Spirit through the Mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16)
  • Praying divine mysteries or secrets through the wisdom of God (1 Cor. 14:2; 1 Cor. 2:6-10)
  • Praying the future into the now (Is. 46:10 Heb. 11:1)
  • Praying to build yourself or edify or charge like a battery (1 Cor. 14:4)
  • Causing the weary to enter rest and a time of refreshment (Is. 28:12)
  • Bringing order to confusion and reversing situations (Gen. 1:1-2)
  • Praying yourself out of a lukewarm state into the will of God (Luke 3:16; Matt. 3:11)
  • Praying in the gifts of the Spirit and functioning in the fivefold ministry because of the fulness of the Spirit
  • Praying increase of excellence in the House of God (Eph. 2:20-22)
  • Hooking up in the Spirit concerning end-time events and the rapture and the 1000-year rule; things to come (John 16:13)
  • Preparing the church, the body of Christ, to overcome in these last days and walk in victory with God’s peace; preparing the church for the outpouring of Global Glory (Hab. 2:14, Is. 40:5)
  • Praying out the Book of the Holy Ghost. Praying with great signs and wonders to affect nations, the church, and the gentile world (Acts 2:4 speaking in other tongues is a sign and evidence of you been filled with the Spirit; Acts 10 and 19)
  • Praying the greatest harvest of souls (Ps. 2)
  • Intercessors that are marked in Isaiah carry the authority and dominion to take back spiritual ground (Is. 9:3-4)
  • Jesus as our High Priest, Advocate, and Intercessor in the presence of the Father standing in the gap bringing divine intervention as He pleads our case, bringing into remembrance your destiny; God’s plan for your life (Heb. 9:24; 7:25; 1 John 2:1)
  • The Spirit receives that destiny plan and then, in us, we pray it out in groanings so that we can walk in our own divine destiny (1 Cor. 2:8-16; Rom. 8:26, 27)
  • It makes me more conscious of who dwells in me, and I become more sensitive to the witness of the Spirit and the inner voice, which is being led by the Spirit. I become God inside-minded, praying the Mind of the Spirit (Rom. 8:14, 16; Prov. 20:27)
  • Praying the compassion (love) of the Spirit as an intercessor in groaning and feeling what they feel; pain, hurt, anguish, depression, fear and standing in the gap and removing it (1 John 4:17; Heb. 5:7; 4:15)
  • Praying the Spirit gives you more boldness and confidence and makes you radical (Acts 4 & 8)
  • Standing in the gap for a sinning brother to repentance as he can’t see his sin as wrong and overcome by it. Ask as an intercessor, stand on behalf of his sin, and ask for forgiveness. Whoever sees his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask and he will give life to him (2 Cor. 12:21, 1 John 5:16)

REMEMBER THE WORDS OF PAUL THE APOSTLE: I PRAY IN TONGUES MORE THAN YOU ALL. IT IS THE BIRTHING PLACE OF ALL THE WILL OF GOD AND THE PREPARATION OF THE GROUND FOR THE WORD TO BE SOWN.

“The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].” – James 5:16

  1. Increase in us Lord that we may decrease and let Your perfect will be done in our lives. Let us be the yielded vessels You’ve created us to be in Jesus name 🙏🏻
